Starbucks Carson Valley Distribution Center and Roasting Plant Expansion is a 750,000 square foot addition that allows for the consolidation of two off-site warehouses in Northern Nevada. The addition brings the total size of the facility to over one million square feet and is integral to improving Starbucks’ operations and incorporation of lean principles.

Development of the new facility dealt with a number of challenges including the redirection of existing utilities, working within a flood plain, the site slope, and coordinating the project with Starbucks distribution logistics. The resulting plan configuration enabled Starbucks to maintain uninterrupted operations throughout construction and facilitates the future incorporation of automated warehousing systems in the coming years.

The project design incorporates several sustainable strategies including natural light in office and daily work areas such as the packaging and shipping zones while high efficiency LED fixtures are zoned throughout the facility for as needed lighting.
